Clean the AirPods and charging case

Clean the AirPods and AirPods Pro earphones

AirPods and AirPods Pro should not be cleaned under running water. Instead, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

Certain substances (e.g. soaps, shampoos, hair conditioners, lotions, perfumes, solvents, detergents, acids or acidic foods, insect repellants, sunscreens, oils, or hair dyes) could cause stains or other damage. If your AirPods or AirPods Pro have come into contact with such a substance, you should pay attention to the following points:

1. Wipe the in-ear headphones with a cloth dampened with fresh water, then dry them with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
2. Wait until the in-ear headphones are completely dry before inserting them into the charging case.
3. Do not use the earbuds again until they are completely dry.
4. Be careful not to spill any liquid into the openings.
5. Clean the microphone and speaker grilles with a dry cotton swab.
6. Do not use sharp objects or abrasives to clean the AirPods or AirPods Pro.

Clean the charging case of your AirPods or AirPods Pro

Clean the charging case with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If necessary, you can lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol. Be careful not to spill any liquid into the charging ports. Other guidelines follow:

If there are foreign objects on or in the Lightning connector, remove them with a clean, dry brush with soft bristles.

Do not use abrasives to clean the charging case. To avoid damaging the metal contacts, do not put anything in the charging ports.

Clean the ear tips of your AirPods Pro

If water has accumulated in an eartip, tap the AirPod on a soft, dry, lint-free cloth with the opening of the eartip facing down to remove the water.
Remove the tips from both AirPods and rinse them with water. Do not use soap or other household cleaners.

Wipe the ear tips with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Make sure the tips are completely dry before you reattach them to the two AirPods.
Reattach the tips to the AirPods. The ear tips are oval. Therefore, pay attention to the correct orientation when attaching.

Note: You cannot mechanically repair your Airpods.

As much as we’d love to give you a guide on how to fix a broken earbud for your AirPods, the size and complexity of Apple wireless headphones make this impossible. iFixit gave the AirPods a 0/10 repairability rating – it’s hard to fix them without completely destroying the case or earbuds.
